On January 1st 2019 whilst reflecting on a huge 2018 I set myself a goal; a goal that seemed out of reach, a goal that would mean running 270 km a month, averaging close to 70 km a week, 10 km’s a day. The plan; to run 2019 miles in 2019!
Did I honestly think I could do this? Possibly not. But for me it’s important to set goals, challenges, create a focus. I need this to overcome the storm my mind throws at me daily. I love routine, I love the fact I was chasing a target, chasing a dream.
Maintaining 70/80 km weeks was at the time a pipe dream, who’s to say I wasn’t going to get injured for a period, sick for a few weeks… These things I didn’t even consider, truthfully. The goals are always in the back of my mind, but the battle I face daily has taught me to take each day as it comes.
It took me right up to December the 17th to hit target. I ran my final mile; mile 2019 on the canal, my safe place, the place my journey begun. With emotions running high I took my Instagram followers on the home stretch. I owe a lot to these people, I rely a lot on the support from the Insta community. I don’t think I’d be where I am today without them.
2019 was a very special year for me, I’ve overcome a lot of obstacles to achieve more than I’d set out to do. I’d say it was turning point, the year I truly started to believe again. The highlights for me were Manchester marathon in April, Chester & Leeds half in May, Ladybower Marathon in June, Endure 24 solo in July, Bristol half and Sheff 10 k in September.
2020 is going to be a big one! In April I will be running the London Marathon for Disability Sports Yorkshire. This has been the dream since I started running, it’s the opportunity of a life time. The first four months of the year will be getting ready for London, before we move on to the biggest challenge of my life! All to be revealed soon…..
