It saddens me to announce the untimely death of my good friend and Run4yourMind ambassador Matt Gillespie – running_from_the_edge.
I know a lot of you were moved by his recent blog where he explained his struggles with Mental Health and how he’d overcome a recent suicide attempt. Ultimately it wasn’t his Mental Health that killed him, which makes it even harder to come to terms with. He’d been doing so well.
Matt you were there for me in my darkest days, you helped rebuild my strength and gave me belief. Even when you were at your lowest you showed great courage, documenting your struggles through Instagram, supporting and helping others.
Matt was consecutively at the top of the Run4YourMind Club leader board, averaging 100 miles a week. He’d been sober for 4 months and had huge plans for 2018.
The last thing Matt said to me was make sure you enter Equinox 24. I’ll now be running this alongside his wife Louise, who’s bravely stepped in and taken his place aswell as his good friend Gazbo.
Equinox is a 24 hour race. Matt had all intentions of breaking the distance record which is 210 km. I strongly believe he would have smashed this!
I’m going to miss you loads mate, thanks for everything.
